2 Winds Paddle Sports
2 Winds is named for the two prevailing trade winds that sweep along the coast of East Africa. Kaskazi, Swahili for 'northern wind', blows from the northeast between December and March. While Kusi, Swahili for 'southern wind', blows from the southeast between July and September. These trade winds govern life in the Zanzibar Archipelago and by understanding them and following their lead, we can enjoy a paddle all year round. Stand up paddle boarding or SUP is currently considered to be the fastest growing water sport in the world. We have tour options that can be enjoyed by adults and kids at all levels! All our tours start with a SUP lesson by one of your guides before you hit the water. Our aim is for you to feel comfortable and have the best experience out there!
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Stand up paddle boarding or SUP is currently considered to be the fastest growing water sport in the world. Like the roots of many water sports, SUP can be traced back to the islands of Hawaii. Stand up paddling and stand up paddle surfing actually has ancient Polynesian roots but only became popular in modern times. Basically, SUP uses a surf style board and a long paddle. In that regard, it is like a cross between canoeing and surfing. Stand up paddling can be done in a variety of forms such as on flat lakes and waterways, open ocean, river rapids and surfing big waves. SUP is also fast becoming the fitness activity of choice for many people as it offers a full body work out surrounded by the beauty of nature.
About the Founders
We love everything this island has to offer. We met in 2014 when we were both doing the same kind of work in Zanzibar, coordinating volunteers and overseeing programs in the non-profit sector. We realized that we shared a passion for the culture, community and the beautiful wonders of the entire Zanzibar Archipelago.
Living on Zanzibar has been an incredible experience for both of us but the day to day life and work can be stressful and you forget that this is a magical island fringed with beautiful beaches, lagoons and mangrove forests - all full of adventures waiting to happen. It's important to make time to enjoy what is always waiting for you at your doorstep. The Indian Ocean.

When we're not working, we're on the water, paddling and exploring. What great respect we have for it. We watch how gracefully the tide comes and goes, and each time it invites us to follow it. It is the world's biggest playground, and the world's most shared resource. The ocean is home to millions of species, from mysterious bioluminescent creatures at its greatest depths, to beautiful mangrove forests in shallow waters. We are intrigued by it's flawless beauty, tremendous strength and deep rooted balance. Being outside, on the water, under the sun and in nature is something that has become integral to our enjoyment of this island, and it's where we find our balance.
So, it made sense for us to launch 2 Winds. We are a small outfit and we want to let things grow organically, enjoying the ride as much as we can.

It's really not just a business for us, it's a passion. What we really want, is to share these experiences with you.
We hope to see you on the water!
